Longarm Quilting Prices near me|at Deb’s Quilt Studio
Longarm Quilting prices near me at Deb's Quilt Studio - Taylor, Arizona
It's always a bit nerve-wracking, isn't it? You've spent months piecing together your quilt top - choosing just the right fabrics, ripping out seams that didn't quite match up, and finally getting everything just perfect. Now comes the quilting, and that's where I come in!
I'm Deb, and I've been longarm quilting here in Taylor since 2022. What started as a hobby in my sewing room has grown into Deb's Quilt Studio, where I've had the privilege of helping hundreds of quilters complete their treasured projects. Let’s breakdown my Longarm Services & Pricing!
How I Figure Out What to Charge
Let me be straight with you - pricing isn't my favorite part of this business! I'd rather just quilt all day and not worry about the money side of things. But bills need paying, and my Gammill Statler Stitcher machine wasn't cheap.
So here's how I've worked out my pricing after lots of trial and error over the years:
What Goes Into My Prices
First off, no two quilts are the same, which means no two quilting jobs are identical either. When you bring your quilt to me, these things affect what I'll charge:
Size matters - Obviously, a king-size quilt uses more thread and takes way longer than a baby quilt. Plus, wrestling those big ones through the machine is practically my gym workout for the day!
Pattern difficulty - Simple patterns like meandering are quick to do. Those fancy feathers and custom designs? They take time and concentration (and sometimes a bit of muttering under my breath when I mess up and have to pick out stitches).
Thread changes - Every time I stop to change thread colors, that's time. Plus, each color needs its own tension adjustments to look right.
Your batting choice - Bring your own or use mine - I keep several kinds on hand because everyone has their preferences.
How your top arrives - If your seams are pressed neatly and your backing isn't all wrinkled, we're off to a good start! If not, well, I'll need to do some prep work.
What I'm Charging These Days (as of March 2025)
Edge-to-Edge Designs
This is when one pattern goes across the whole quilt - most popular and budget-friendly option. I do have a $50.00 mimium charge.
How Fancy the Pattern Is What It Costs Per Square Inch
Basic stuff (loops, meandering, stipple, simple curves) $0.022
Medium (more distinct patterns with some detail) $0.025
Fancy pants (dense patterns with lots going on) $0.03
So for example, if you bring me a queen quilt (around 90" x 108") and want a medium pattern, we're looking at roughly $250. That might sound like a lot at first, but when you break it down by the hours it takes... well, let's just say I'm not getting rich quick!
Custom Work
When you want different designs in different areas, or special attention to certain blocks, that's custom work. Starts at $0.035 per square inch and goes up depending on how intricate we get.
This includes things like:
Different designs for blocks and borders
Outlining piecing with "stitch in the ditch"
Special designs that highlight your piecing
For the really detailed stuff - you know, the show quilts where judges get out their magnifying glasses - that can run $0.065-$0.095 per square inch. I don't get many of these, but they're fun challenges!
Other Services You Might Want
What You Need What It’ll Cost
Just basting (if you want to do the quilting yourself) $0.015 per square inch
Machine Binding ( Quilter prepared binding that is pressed and starched) $0.017 per linear inch around the edge of quilt
Binding that I have to prepare, requires you to have enough fabric & me machince sewing it down completely $0.30 per linear inch around the quilt
Rush Job (when you forgot about that wedding next week) 25% extra
Fixing tops that need help $25/hour (but I’ll call you first)
Mail-Order Services (same quilting fees) - you ship to me and I get the Finished quilt back to you by UPS. small nominal fee
Batting I Keep In Stock
You're welcome to bring your own batting, or send it in your mail order box, but I keep these on hand:
80/20 Cotton/Poly: $14.33 /yard (90 inch wide) - My most popular choice; not too puffy, not too flat.
100% Cotton: $16/yard - Nice drape, but can shrink a bit when washed (which some people actually want!)
Wool Batting: $21/yard - Expensive but worth it for special quilts; amazing loft and so warm.
Bamboo Blend: $20/yard - My personal favorite for summer quilts; has a lovely silky feel.
When Will Your Quilt Be Done?
Right now I'm running about 2-3 weeks from drop-off to pick-up. Christmas season gets crazy (I start getting holiday quilts in September!), so plan ahead if you need something done by December.
I get it - sometimes you need something in a hurry. Just ask! If I can squeeze you in, I will. If not, I might know another quilter who can help.
Why Folks Keep Coming Back to My Studio
After quilting and now longarming, I’ve been doing this alot of years, I've learned a few things:
Do good work, every time - I treat each quilt like it's going on my own bed
Be upfront about costs - Nobody likes surprise bills
Listen more than talk - Your quilt tells a story, and I want to hear it
I believe good quilting should make your piecing work look even better, not compete with it. Some quilts want simple quilting to let those gorgeous fabrics shine. Others need elaborate designs to bring them to life. That's the art of it!
